Bio

Born in Piacenza (IT) in 1987, Andrea Zardi trained between Milan and in Florence at Hamlyn Ballet School and Balletto di Toscana, strengthening his knowledge of ballet and contemporary repertoire. Between 2011 and 2013 he continued his training in Rome, Berlin, Brussels, and at the Eko Dance Project in Turin with Pompea Santoro and Veli Peltokallio. In Turin, he joined the international training program of Nuova Officina della Danza, where he studied Gaga and the most recent approaches to choreography.

He danced in Lyric Dance Company, Nicoletta Cabassi/Lubber Das, Artemis Danza, Cie Willy Dorner, Hervè Chaussard, Teatro Regio of Turin, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Teatro Regio of Parma e in the lyrical operas of Teatro La Scala - Milan.

From 2018 he began his own path as a choreographer, with the first duo Relation_Á bout de souffle with Riccardo Meroni for the Festival Coreografie Ad Arte - Spazio Tadini in Milan. His interest in creation and dramaturgy deepened with Nóstoi | View Room, the solo performance GRNDR_date no one (2020) and situated performance collaborations as Unknown (2018) and A U T O R I S S I M I (2018).

The project ZA DanceWorks has been supported and produced by Associazione ArtGarage (Naples) and Associazione Cinqueminuti APS (Reggio Emilia).

Over the years, Andrea has collaborated with numerous theatre and dance institutions both nationally and internationally, through performances and residencies, including: P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), PARC Performing Arts and Research Centre (Florence), Lavanderia a Vapore (Turin), Pecci Contemporary Art Museum (Prato), Mirabilia Festival (Cuneo), C.S.S. Teatro Stabile di Innovazione del Friuli Venezia Giulia (Udine), Rete SupportER – Emilia-Romagna, and Programme Q – Avignon and many others.

In parallel with his artistic practice, Andrea carries out research in the academic field: graduated in History of Fine Arts and Performing Arts, he gained a PhD in the field of Dance and Cognitive Science at the University of Turin, has published widely in specialized journals, and takes part in international conferences, festivals, and symposia. He is currently a research fellow.
